July 25, 2012

So, you didn't think I would post again.  Your faith in me is about as high as my own.  But since you are reading this, I have proved us all wrong.

I have more pictures to post.  The coolest part is that they still all have me in them.

A major part of the project in Diana's dad's back yard is getting the gravel that we use.  We drive the B-52 out to a local rock supply facility, where we- it's all relative, now- zip around the operation.  Surrounded by very official rock and cement trucks, and giant front loaders, we are one of two personal vehicles we have seen the entire time.  The loaders are very skilled and seem to get a bit of a kick out of us girls hauling around with the big boys.  They load between 3-5,000 pounds of gravel onto the back of the flatbed and, once they are done, we take off with a start. A very, very slow start. On this day we took 5 loads of gravel.  Luckily we didn't shovel any of it.

Watching the gravel dump into the truck.

Our packing has been coming along pretty well.  We packed the majority of our things into boxes, which we have numbered and entered into an excel spreadsheet to organize which boxes are staying in Spokane and which are coming to Fairbanks.  And which boxes are being driven and which shipped.  And which will stay in Spokane until Diana heads north. Etc, Etc. Then we took her Dad's trailer and filled it with all of our furniture (save for a mattress laying on the ground).

Letting Diana untie our furniture while I just hang out.
Having now moved both into the second floor and out of the second floor, I definitely suggest the latter of the two, if you have the choice.

Since the beginning of our relationship, Diana has talked about Priest Lake.  Her family goes there every year, either camping or staying in a cabin.  I have heard of the beauty of this lake over and over again. This is now the fourth summer that I have lived over here and I still had not made it to Priest Lake until a few days ago.  For goodness sake, even some of my friends from Bellingham had been there! And my parents! And this is since I have been living in Spokane, just 2 hours away!  But I'm not jealous.  Anyway, Kerri (Diana's step-mom) drove Diana and I out there on Sunday.  We promptly had margaritas and sat by the water.

The cabin is small and cute, and makes Diana and I realize that we could definitely live in a cabin in Alaska. And that it really doesn't have to be that big to be livable.  Here we are doing dinner.

And by 'we', I mean 'Diana'

Last week was a very large storm that ran through northern Idaho.  I heard tornado warnings on the radio, along with severe thunderstorm warnings. The wind knocked a tree onto the cabin before we got there, and since being there, we had a couple of windy nights.  But when I woke up yesterday morning, the water was as clear as can be, and still too. It was a peaceful time.  Until some boaters started chopping it up.  And after sleeping on a pull-out couch... well, my back could use some stretching.

steeeerreeeeeeecccccchhhhhhh
