For those of you who are unfamiliar with American celebratory days, last Sunday was Valentine’s day... A day to use as an excuse to do something fun with your special someone. I found it very odd that they decided to have President’s Day weekend be the same one as Valentine’s Day weekend, but I don’t get to make the schedule so I had no say in the matter. Just seems like an unromantic combination.
In order to do something new, the two of us decided to go on an extended date. We bought tickets to a show by the Interplayers and made reservations for a room at the Hotel Lusso in Spokane. Except for a brief errand to pick up a forgotten remote, the day was absolutely wonderful. The play was entertaining, the dinner tasty, and we sat on our king-sized bed and watched the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice (oh, she knows me so well) while eating candy. The parking was valet and the room very nice. And we got to pretend that we were rich, if only for a night.
We are now back to living in her Dad’s basement… back to real life. Which really isn’t so bad. Even if we don’t have a king sized bed.
