If there is only one thing family is good for, it is manual labor. Support? Security? Free furniture? Ok, well that last one too. But mostly we are good for guaranteed manual labor. Last hitch I received a classified ad from my dad: “Call re yardwork for cash tues wed. Need help planting trees. $20 per hour min. Great opp for good worker! Love, dad”. So it began.
My parents are on a continual quest to improve the house. god forbid that it were ever so nice when any of us actually lived there, but I wont continue down that path. They have re-carpeted, re-furnished, re-arranged, are about to re-roof, and have been re-landscaping the thing. Granted, it’s mostly a slow process, as my dad is working solo out in the back yard. The most recent purchase is, as I am certain you are aware (and if not, then we might work on your observation skills), trees! They bought 3 new trees: a japenese maple, a stuartia, and a… something… else. At the end of last hitch was a fantastic opportunity to swing by the house, do a little hole digging, a little planting, and pick up another carload of my things.
Back-filling the Japanese Maple
The three trees after they were all planted. In the future, there will be more landscaping done between the trees, but for now this is it.
I think it ended up looking real sweet. And I look forward to seeing these things grow up. If they can make it past this winter, that is.
Max is an exceptionally hard worker.
